Australia’s first cowboy rides off into the sunset.

Smokey Dawson (born Herbert Henry) passed away this morning at Hornsby hospital, north Sydney.
The singer who was both an MBE and OAM as well as an ARIA hall of fame inductee is survived by his wife Dot.
Tributes have been flowing in for the late singer and radio performer widely regarded as “Australia’s first cowboy”.
So long Smokey, I’m sure you’ll find yourself in good company on the other side.

I just saw an update on Lateline which included the “code of the west” for Smokey’s Deputy Sherifs, they included
*Do good deeds
*Always tell the truth
*Remember to brush your teeth.
What a beautiful old man.

I just hope Lee Kernaghan stays alive long enough for Smokey to be well and truly away from the pearly gates when the ‘Australian of the year’ arrives up there too. It’d bring the tone down.
